February Installation News
Plantronics - Paris
Plantronics have taken their philosophy of open plan smarter working to their newest office in Paris and Acoustics by Design have played a integral part in its design and acoustics.
Due to restrictions by the landlord, the ceiling could not be replaced with an acoustic one so Acoustics by Design specified a number of ceiling rafts, coloured to match the aesthetics but 100% absorbing above all the noisy areas including the gym which is open to the office.
Sound masking plays an important part throughout, controlling speech privacy and creating comfort and concentration. There are fourteen reSorb walls to reduce reverberation and noise all with bespoke graphics chosen by the French staff. The acoustic solution was further complimented by high back furniture and meeting pods from Orangebox.
One of the worlds leading semi conductor manufactures – used in many of the tablets and smart phones used today.
The company is expanding at an extraordinary rate and wanted a new UK office for their senior staff. They chose an office in Green Park, Reading close to where our own Technical Director, Colin Rawlings, installed the first of many sound masking systems 12 years ago.
The office comprises of a large board room, meeting rooms and open plan space requiring both speech privacy and concentration.
The fit out was completed by Magenta and incorporates sound masking from Lencore to maintain the speech privacy and comfort. reSorb Walls reduce reverberation within the meeting rooms and create speech intelligibility particularly for tele and video conferencing and reSorb Rafts to prevent distraction from open plan collaboration areas. The adaptable sound masking uses a random broadband spectrum tuned to each area controlled locally via a web interface. The reSorb Walls are a highly sound absorbing fabric finish digitally printed with the clients own choice of marketing material.
John Rothery (Bisley) Wholesale
One of the largest wholesale distributors of rifles, archery and crossbows in the UK.
Their offices comprise of meeting rooms, offices and a contact centre with large distribution warehouse. The issue was lack of speech privacy between the board room and adjacent offices and a noisy contact centre.
Acoustics by Design recommended sound masking to raise the natural background sound levels throughout the offices, this was the least expensive and disruptive solution compared with full height partitions to the very high roof to solve the privacy issue. For the contact centre the sound masking reduces the noise but is combined with a replacement acoustic ceiling tile to quieten the space.
The installation was completed out of working hours and due to the occupied nature of the office an acclimatisation of the masking was used such that staff would not be subjected to sudden change.
Axiom – Zurich
A new office in the centre of Zurich, completely open plan with meeting spaces, this US law firm required speech privacy and concentration.
Axiom have used Lencore sound masking in other offices and requested that it be installed in the Zurich office. It required a wall mounted solution due to the ceiling finish.
Acoustics by Design delivered the solution during normal working hours, installing and tuning the system with the minimum of disturbance to the employees.
