Worthing Sailing Club
The newly finished Worthing Sailing Club cost around £1m to build and fit out with bar, large function room, changing rooms and boat store but a frequent complaint was the acoustics in the function room which is used as a lecture hall, dining room and dance floor.
With more than three people talking and a few children running around the noise made speech unintelligible. The solution was to add sound absorbing materials to reduce the reverberation (echo).
A test showed that the reverberation time (RT60) was in excess of 2.6 seconds. To compliment the aesthetic design and not detract from the sea views, 20 round reSorb islands were installed on the ceiling reducing the reverberation time to less than 1 second.
The room is now fit for purpose and comfortable.
